GRADING RULES
PREPARATORY No grading points earned from any wins or places in Preparatory graded classes. DSJC committee reserves the right to upgrade any horse to Novice if it is deemed appropriate.
NOVICE AND ABOVE Grading points awarded only when there is a minimum of 5 horses that complete the course (eg not eliminated or retired) and two or more horses have a clear first round and go into a jump off where applicable.
DSJC Show & Event Policy stipulates type of class eligible for grading points.
Points are awarded:
1st place - 4 points
2nd place - 2 points
3rd place - 1 point
Double grading points apply in classes 2 levels higher than the horse's grade (eg a Novice graded horse places in a Preliminary D Grade class).
Upgrading will only become effective at the completion of the event where the points were gained. EG if a horse entered 2 classees at an event and earns the points in the 1st classes, the horse is not considered to be upgraded until the completion of the event and is therefore able to continue to compete in the 2nd class.
All riders regardless of age/grading are permitted to ride H/C (ie not for points or placing, and not in jumpoffs) in any class, including preparatory.

DOWNGRADING
The DSJC committee will consider applications
for a horse to be downgraded.
Any application for a downgrade must be
made to the DSJC Committee in writing. The application will be considered at the next available meeting of the
committee. Applications will only be considered at a regular meeting of the committee.
Applications must include:
- Full details of horse – horse’s name,
age, current DSJC and EA grade including exact number of points;
- Name of owner;
- Exact reason for request – EG: the application
must clearly articulate if the request to downgrade is due to the horse’s inability
at a certain level or the horse has a new rider etc;
- Copies of the horse’s official
Performance card if it is EA graded; and
- Any other relevant supporting
documentation.
It is the responsibility of the
applicant to ensure that the application includes all necessary information
and/or supporting documentation. The
committee has the right to seek further information from the applicant and
consideration of the request will be delayed until such time as the requested
information is received.
The Committee will assess all requests
on their own merits. In the case of a
request relating to a new/younger/less experienced rider, any approved downgrading
will apply only to that rider. A horse
may not be downgraded for more than one rider at a time.
Downgraded horses will generally be downgraded
with half the number of points relating to its new grade (eg: a horse downgraded
to Elementary will have 33 points). The
committee will consider requests for horses to be downgraded with the minimum
number of points in the new grade based on individual circumstances.
Applicants will be notified in writing
(this may include e-mail) of the decision of the committee. If the applicant is not satisfied with the
decision of the committee, the applicant will have a period of 7 days from the
date of that notification to request a review of that decision. In the event of a request to review a
decision, it will be the responsibility of the applicant to provide any further
documentation and/or supporting information to the committee for consideration.
All current financial DSJC members will
be notified of any approved downgrade via the club email distribution list.
